Trusting God's Timing

As a parent, one thing that really gets under my skin is when my kids ask me for the same thing over and over while I’m working out the details in the background.

One day, my daughter came to me and said, “Mom, I keep asking you if we’re going on a trip for my birthday, and you haven’t answered me yet!”

My response was simple but pointed: “When have you ever asked me for something, and I didn’t follow through? There’s a lot of planning that goes into what you’re asking for, and I want to make sure I work out the details.”

As soon as those words left my mouth, I felt a strong sense of conviction

. How many times have I prayed for something and then grown impatient because God didn’t respond on my timeline? How often have I refused to trust that He’s working things out in the background?

This season, I’m focusing on not growing weary—continuing to do what God has asked of me and trusting that my due season will come. As Galatians 6:9 (NIV) reminds us:

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Just like I’m working behind the scenes to make sure my daughter’s birthday plans are perfect, God is working behind the scenes in our lives. We may not see the details yet, but He’s setting everything in place. As Isaiah 40:31 (NLT) says:

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

Waiting isn’t easy, but it’s necessary. God’s timing is perfect—even when we can’t see the full picture yet.

Pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

We thank You that You are a God who works all things together for our good. Your Word reminds us in Romans 8:28 that “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” We know that You see the end from the beginning, and nothing catches You by surprise. Lord, we ask that You help us to trust in Your perfect timing for our lives.

Teach us to rest in the knowledge that You are working behind the scenes even when we cannot see the full picture. Strengthen our faith when doubt tries to creep in, and remind us that Your ways are higher than our ways and Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Lord, we ask for wisdom and discernment as we wait on You. Show us the planning and preparation needed so that we are in proper alignment for the blessings and promises You have set before us. Help us to move when You say move and to be still when You say wait. Keep us sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit so that we don't miss the doors You are opening or the lessons You are teaching us in the process.

Amen
