Sprinkling prayer on my plans

While living my best “Christian Girlie” life, I had plenty of bad habits, but the most problematic was sprinkling prayer over my plans and decisions. You know—dating the guy, then asking God to bless the relationship. Buying the car, then praying for safety. Setting career goals, then asking for God’s favor. Coming up with wellness goals, then praying for weight loss.

I can’t be the only one doing this, right?

One day, while reading Proverbs, I came across a verse I knew but had never really meditated on:

“Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand.”

Proverbs 19:21 AMPC

It hit me: I was living my plan, without asking God what His purpose was. I thought I was good because I sprinkled prayer here and there—and sometimes a lot! But after reflecting on this verse, I realized I hadn’t truly sought God’s purpose for my life.

My story didn’t take a dramatic turn, but I did open my heart and ears and simply asked God to reveal His plan for me. Little by little, He has been doing just that.

One of the things I love about God is that He wastes nothing. Even if a career change or a big move is ahead, I know it will work out for His good. Now, I pray first for God’s instructions, wait, and then move.

Prayer

Lord, I repent for making plans and only sprinkling prayer on top. Open my heart, eyes, and ears to hear Your direction for my life. Thank You for having a plan for me even before I was born. If I am out of alignment, realign me. Remove any fear that may come to steal Your plans, and thank You for the strength, purpose, and godly support You’ve already placed in my life.

Amen.
